When the first version of The Flourish Project rolled out in June 2014, one of the exercises was to designate one day a week where you would go for 24 hours without whinging or complaining.
The group decided to do the challenge together and Whinge Free Wednesday was born. Now it’s something that the group does every week.
By becoming more aware of the words we speak, we have to become more aware of our thoughts.
You can then become aware of habitual thinking patterns and communication styles.
From this point you can think about how to handle situations in a more intentional way.
I have learnt heaps from doing the exercise myself (don’t think because I am a life coach, that I am a perfect person or that my life is perfect. Far from it!).
It’s makes me consider what has truly caused any negative emotion, rather than react to it and say negative things.
It makes me consider whether something requires an action or whether it’s something to let go.
It makes me think about solutions rather than complaining about something with no outcome.
It makes me be assertive where I choose to.
Doing all these things takes us closer to our true selves, rather than the reactive balls of stress that we can be.
The idea of the task is not to “put up and shut up”. Absolutely not!
The intention is not to deny problems, but to act on them in a proactive way or choose to let them go.
What do you think? Could you give it a go?
